The New Zealand Visitor Visa is for holidays, visiting family or friends and business visits. Since 1 October 2026 you apply for it online only, with Immigration New Zealand (INZ). This guide explains where to apply from Pakistan, how much money to show, what it costs and how long it takes.

There is no New Zealand embassy in Pakistan

New Zealand has no diplomatic office in Pakistan. The New Zealand High Commission in Colombo, Sri Lanka covers Pakistan, but it does not accept visa applications or take part in visa processing. Everything goes through INZ:

  • you apply and pay online, by card;
  • most applicants never hand in their passport, but if INZ asks for it, you send it through the visa application centre in Karachi (VFS Global, by appointment), which charges a service fee of PKR 8,400 per application.

How long you can stay

You can stay up to 9 months in any 18 months. A multiple-entry visa allows up to 6 months in each 12-month period. On a visitor visa you cannot work for a New Zealand employer, and you can study for up to 3 months.

How much money to show

  • NZD 1,000 for each month of your visit, or NZD 400 a month if your accommodation is already paid.
  • An onward or return ticket, or the money to buy one, on top of those amounts.

Show bank or credit card statements in your own name, with the bank and the currency on them. Instead of your own money, a sponsor can support you: a New Zealand citizen or resident, or a New Zealand organisation. You enter their details in your application, and INZ emails them the online sponsorship form (INZ 1025). A sponsor pays your living costs and your travel out of New Zealand.

The documents

  • A scan of your passport, valid at least 3 months after you leave New Zealand.
  • One acceptable photo.
  • Proof of your money and your plans (bookings, details of the people you visit).
  • Proof you will leave: your ticket, your employer's leave letter, your family and assets in Pakistan.
  • English translations of anything not in English.

What it costs

Applying online from Pakistan costs NZD 441: the NZD 300 visa fee, the NZD 41 immigration levy and the NZD 100 International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL).

Long stays: x-ray and police certificate

  • For a stay over 6 months you need a chest x-ray, because Pakistan is not on INZ's list of countries with a low rate of tuberculosis; over 12 months, a medical examination too. INZ tells you after you apply. Use one of its panel physicians in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi.
  • If your total time in New Zealand will be 24 months or more, you need a police certificate under 6 months old, uploaded with your application. A receipt for having applied is not accepted.

How long it takes

INZ decides 80% of visitor visas within 2 weeks. September to March is its busy season, so apply early.
