What happens on the day
You sign a consent form, see a doctor and have a chest X-ray, which is the test. The result is usually ready within 24 hours. If the X-ray is not clear, you give 3 sputum samples on 3 mornings, and the final result can take up to 2 months. Your certificate is valid for 6 months from the X-ray. AMC says some people get a certificate valid for only 3 months, such as close contacts of someone with active TB.
