Usually needed

  • Passport

    Valid for at least one more year, with two blank pages, issued within the last 10 years. Original and a copy of the data page.

  • Visa application form (signed)

    National visa application form, every section completed and signed; a parent or representative signs for a minor. Also form EX-01 for the non-lucrative residence authorisation.

  • Passport-size photograph (destination specification)

    One recent colour passport-size photo, light background, face fully visible.

  • Bank statement / proof of funds

    Proof of savings for the first year, or of regular income (pension, rent, investments), of at least 400% of IPREM a month, plus the full IPREM amount for each dependent family member.

  • Health insurance certificate

    Public or private health insurance from an insurer authorised to operate in Spain, covering everything the Spanish public system covers.

  • Medical certificate (public health)

    Medical certificate that you have none of the diseases with serious public health effects under the International Health Regulations 2005.

  • Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC)

    Proof that you live in the Embassy's district, for example your CNIC (original and a copy).

  • Police character certificate

    Police certificate from every country you lived in during the last five years, apostilled and translated.

  • Polio vaccination certificate (NIMS/NADRA)

    Pakistan exit requirement, not a visa document: when you leave Pakistan you must show a NIMS/NADRA vaccination certificate including polio (the old paper card is no longer accepted, and since 14 September 2026 airports check a NADRA-integrated vaccination record). Verify current rules.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Check the money you need

    You live in Spain without working: the visa does not allow work. You need savings for the first year, or regular income, of at least 400% of the IPREM indicator a month (about EUR 2,400 a month, EUR 28,800 for the year, at the 2025 IPREM of EUR 600; verify the current figure), plus the full IPREM amount again for each family member who depends on you.

  2. Prepare documents

    National visa form and form EX-01 for the residence authorisation, a photo, your passport, proof of the savings or regular income, health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain, a police certificate for the last five years (adults), a medical certificate, proof that you live in the Embassy's district and fee form 790 code 052. Each family member applies too, with proof of the family link. All foreign documents must be apostilled (Pakistan: MOFA apostille) and, if not in Spanish, come with a Spanish translation.

  3. Apply in person

    Apply in person (a parent for a child). The residence authorisation is decided together with the visa. The page does not name the place; the Embassy's where-to-apply page names the Spain Visa Application Centre in G-7 Markaz, Islamabad. If unsure, ask the Embassy at emb.islamabad.sc@maec.es.

  4. Decision and arrival

    The Embassy decides within one month of the favourable decision on the authorisation. The visa is valid for 365 days. In Spain, apply for your foreigner identity card (TIE) within one month of arriving.
